Poplar Brook Arts was created by Lauren Barnes, a glass and ceramic artist living and working in Maryland. Lauren grew up in western Howard County on her family's two adjoining farms: Air View Farm and Poplar Brook Farm. Her parents were childhood friends and neighbors, and their two separate farms eventually became intertwined. In 2016, the opportunity to move back to the farm arose. Lauren transformed a dark and dingy room in the basement of her new (to her) home into a stained glass studio. The studio is adjacent to the farm where her mother grew up, Poplar Brook Farm, which is still in her family today. Lauren considers it a privilege to be creating her artwork in a location that overlooks the beautiful rolling fields that her family has tended to for generations.
Lauren has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the Maryland Institute College of Art. While her first love is definitely clay, she is currently working mainly in stained glass.
Lauren is married to Jeremy, and they have a wonderfully spunky daughter named Ani. Together they enjoy hiking, gardening, taking care of their pets (two lionhead rabbits and a hedgehog), and endlessly dreaming about moving to the West Coast.
